Challenge to SE and others

January 7, 2009 - 4:39 am
  • Not sure how to do this or if it is against any rules but here goes:

In the thread "Reasonable Travel in Canada" YYZSuz is looking for assistance to get cheap fares to go to various cities in Canada and the UK to participate in raising money for Breast Cancer Research walks. She has received lots of good low fare advice. I think FT can do better.

I challenge other FTer's to provide an AP flight to YYZSuz so that she can go to the various Walks against Breast cancer. I will be the first. Let's see if we can get her to all the Walks!

YYzSuz has a website for her fundraising:

    www.ivegotheart.com/

YYZSuz has confirmed she can get tax receipts for all contributors and will pay the AP taxes and charges if requested.

Note: I do not know YYZSuz but believe this to be a great cause and am happy to try and help her in her quest.

If you would like to meet my challenge post it and she/I will PM you with more info.

  • Should the two threads be combined (challenge and the walk)?

  • I actually thought about this myself. My belief is that Aeroplan would find someway to get upset with all this "donation"

I certainly hope that would not be the case!

BTW, question for for YYZSuz - is there only one person looking for travel or is there a group?

  • Please PM with what you are still looking for, and I may be able to assist.

  • I learned something from this donation. )

I did it too, and booked one for her. I did send an email preadvising an AC contact to hopefully prevent any issues.

  • Bump.

  • Great idea. ^ I'm in! Please PM me with details.

  • Your're one great person East-West AC.....thanks for your fantastic efforts here and many other places. ^ ^ ^ And to
    YYZSuz .......you go girl!

Thanks QShoe :) YYZSuz is the one doing all the amazing work. All the kudos go to her! mtacchi also brought the cause up to his contacts in AC.

That being said, I am willing to do something to help.
No tax reciept required as I am a non tax paying Expat.

Some of the "million miles" can go to something useful.

I learned something from this donation. I did not realize that the rules had changed and was still operating on the assumption that a basic member could only "give " a ticket to family, as used to be the case. When I called AC to confirm what Agent had already learned, I was surpirsed to be told" you can give a ticket to anyone your little heart desires". Under those circumstances I would think AP wouldnt be upset in any manner. Besides can you imagine how silly they would look if they complained about "donations" for someone walking for such a great cause(<<

I actually thought of doing this for YYZSuz, but alas, my account is drained :(

  • AE also has this program that might match or kick in some miles from their charity bank.

  • My pleasure! Good luck! Perhaps you should look to Nike or New Balance for donations. I'm sure you're going through shoes quickly too! :D

    Hi Back seat,

thanks for the question. I am the only one who is nuts enough to be participating in all nine 60km walks.

    thanks
    suz

  • I will meet the challenge and encourage others to do so.

  • Aeroplan points donated for a good cause.

To most people, walking 240 km is a challenge. To Air Canada frequent flyer YYZSuz, it’s just the beginning. After walking in four Weekend to End Breast Cancer 60 km walks last year, she knew there was more she could do. So this year, she will travel across Canada and to the UK to participate in nine of these events, and will be raising over $22,000 to support major cancer care centres in each city.

So far this year YYZSuz has raised over $8,000 and has already walked in Winnipeg, Ottawa and Calgary. The fundraising is still going on and in order to help YYZSuz participate in these events; she is accepting donations of Aeroplan miles to help out with the travel. The Aeroplan community on www.flyertalk.com has been very generous in their donations so far. In order to participate in the events, Suzanne has to raise $2,000 in each city ($3,000 in the UK) and walk 60 km.

  • Can non-SEs help? I have a vast reserve and would be happy to support YYZSuz. PM on the way ...

  • Thanks to EWAC for posting this in the Daily and to all the very generous FT posters who have donated their points. I have so far walked 180km and am off to Edmonton next weekend.

There is no way I could have done this without your support.

    Thanks again

    Suz.

Agent86 - this is a fantastic idea - I wish I had some Aeroplan miles but I don't even have enough for a toaster. I do wish you luck and I will spread the word as much as I can.

    ;) ..

It's easy for me to donate points and send an email. Suzanne has to do the walking. My hat is off to her.

  • We've enlisted several volunteers for this challenge but have a couple spots left.
    Rise to the challenge!
    Thanks to all.
